Video by Andy Tran, InnerBark Outdoors
Yeah, it’s a pretty old video, but the opportunity to go down to the Amazon Jungle of Colombia—with my friend Joe Flowers’ expedition company, Bushcraft Global—is still one of the best experiences of my life. Had it not been for the cancer, I would have already gone back by now. But rest assured, I will be going back again, very soon.
While we were there we got to work on a lot of cool projects, while also learning a great deal about jungle living and survival from indigenous tribes. Out of all of the great projects we worked on, my favorite was building a blow gun, using nothing more than the resources around us. It was one of the best examples of just how bountiful the jungle can truly be—providing everything you could possibly need to survive.
As we made our blow guns, another good friend who was on the trip, Andy Tran of InnerBark Outdoors, filmed the entire process. Even though the video is a little old, the lessons in it are timeless and worth sharing with you all today.
If you have ever even remotely considered getting out of your comfort zone and seeing what the world has to offer, I highly recommend getting in on an upcoming Bushcraft Global trip, it is an experience you will never forget.
While you are there, you will also get to meet Goran Mihajlovic of the Tanimboca Nature Preserve and Tanimboca Knives. His nature preserve is absolutely amazing, his knives are a story all on their own (that I hope to provide here on Knife & Gear Society someday soon) and Goran is the kind of person you will never forget (for that you will have to meet him to understand).
Whether it is the jungle or the woods of North America, nature has a way of calming the inner spirit and refocusing our lives. Make time for yourself and get outside. Your inner child will thank you. K&G
